On another note, I guess I wanted 0231 also because I REALLY wanted to do Counter Intel/HUMINT. What exactly would a newbie Marine be doing in this field (E2-E4)? What does a typical work day look like? etc. So I will DEFINITELY listen to your opinion and probably would want info from you if available. MY EXPERIENCE with recruiters aren't the greatest, thats why I CAME HERE to get opinions from Marines who ARENT recruiters. My recruiter first tells me I can get 0231, then the Gunny of the station said its availability is dwindled, but they have Crypto Linguist spots open (and again, there were many others that were pushed with this too bc the recruiters were making it sound like a job made for a king). I wasn't trying to have a bad attitude about it at all. However, if your attitude is that it's something you're going to get stuck with, then stick your ass somewhere else because I don't want you.sorry if I came off like an asshat, MSgt. What are you looking to get out of it? I'm telling you right now, I'm a crypto linguist and have been for over 20 years and, as one, you're going to have many more opportunities to get out and do things with and in support of the maneuver elements and you're going to have some very sought after jobs skills if/when you decide to get out. And, on top of all of that, when his career is over, he is practically guaranteed a very lucrative job in the civilian world with his highly sought after skills and security clearance. He probably makes as much as a freaking Major with all the extra money he makes from his language skills. He gotten to deploy some while still having a pretty stable home life.

He has lived debt free due to all the freaking reenlistment bonus money he's made. He has benefited from being in a highly sought after MOS that not everybody can do. My point? He's had a very nice career so far. If I was still in he'd outrank me.Hell, I'm sure I'd still be a SSgt, maybe sniffing Gunny. The guy left as a new Sgt and came back a senior Gunny. He spent several years there before recently going back to Lejeune. Stayed in sunny California for a couple of years then was sent to a freaking Air Force base to work for a school there. He reenlisted and was sent out west to be an instructor. On top of all that.he gets the greatest freaking duty stations. He makes a ton of extra money due to all the languages that he speaks and if he decided to leave the Corps tomorrow he could walk into nice six figure job without even trying. Look.my friend is about the smartest person I know. 13 freaking years and he's looking at MSgt!! WTF? Remember, he's only been in about 13 yrs. I talked to him the other day and it looks like he may be promoted soon to MSgt. He spent maybe two years as a SSgt and now is a Gunny. Before I even sniffed the promotion zone, he was a SSgt. We were promoted to Cpl at about the same time.I was an 03. He has had opportunities to do some really impressive things.

It seems like the SOB gets promoted every two years. He's been in about 13 years and doing great. I met him on float back when we were both Cpls. One of my good friends is currently an active duty Crypto Linguist.
